What's Happening Now

Saturday, June 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. join in the clean up along the banks of the Ohio River.  The event is called, "The Ohio River Sweep."   Volunteers meet up on the banks of the Ohio to work together to beautify the riverbank.  The River Sweep includes the entire Ohio River (1,962 miles). The Ohio River Greenway encompasses 7 of those miles. 

The Ohio River Greenway Commission & Friends of the Ohio River Greenway are concentrating on two areas:

     1. The Mill Creek Bridge located in Clark County

             Check-in at the Falls of the Ohio State Park to get your free t-shirt and some trash bags first!

     2. New Albany Riverfront at Scribner Place located in Floyd County

             Check-in at the tent near the Amphitheater to get your free t-shirt and some trash bags

Bags of trash can be left by the roadside and local city and town crews will pick them up. 

Be sure to bring work gloves to protect your hands.

The Ohio River Sweep in Clark County is locally organized by the Falls of the Ohio State Park.

Ohio River Sweep

River Sweep is a riverbank cleanup of the Ohio River and its tributaries. River Sweep encompasses the entire length of the river, from its origin in Pittsburgh, PA to its end in Cairo, IL, including 1,962 miles of shoreline and many tributaries. 

Each year, more than 21,000 volunteers from public organizations, civic groups, recreational clubs, and the general public in six states bordering the river come together to collect more than 20,000 tons of trash and other debris from the banks of the Ohio River and tributaries.

Since 1989, River Sweep has been organized by the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission, an interstate water pollution agency for the Ohio River Valley, along with environmental protection and natural resource agencies from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
